Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

Food Grade hydrogen peroxide is hydrogen peroxide without added stabilizers.

The typical store bought hydrogen peroxide that is common in many households, used on cuts etc. has trace amounts of stabilizers in it.

There are many uses for hydrogen peroxide. Household uses, gardening, first aid, sanitation, and a replacement for chlorine in pools and hot tubs. Another use that is more talked about is it’s ingestion in trace amounts diluted in distilled water, aloe juice or milk.

The use of food grade hydrogen peroxide claims many health benefits, and there are many articles and testimonies about this, yet little scientific research, and it is not FDA approved.

*Warning: food grade hydrogen peroxide is a higher strength and serves as an acid on bare skin or if ingested. It is 10 times stronger than typical store bought peroxide, which is 3%, where food grade is up to 35%. The term food grade sounds like it is safe to eat, but it means safe for external use.

What is Hydrogen Peroxide?

Hydrogen Peroxide is a clear liquid, similar in appearance to water with a subtle viscosity.

The molecular formula is H2O2, yet we’re not here to go into a chemistry discussion.

It is known for it’s strong oxidizing qualities, and for it’s uses as an antiseptic, bleaching agent and even propelling rockets. It’s also becoming known as a household remedy.

It is highly reactive, namely it’s oxidizing capacity, which you may have witnessed on dabbing it on a cut and seeing it foam up. This happens when Hydrogen Peroxide mixes with an enzyme called Catalase, which is found in most oxygen exposed living organisms, that converts the Hydrogen Peroxide into water and oxygen.

It is also used as a replacement for Chlorine in wastewater odor treatment, cleaning wounds, an additive to toothpaste or shampoo, acne, an oral debriding agent, and there are some claims of it’s use of an alternative medicine. There are numerous other uses from it’s natural release in injured Zebra Fish, aiding it healing, other varied household uses, to aiding in making paper pulp and it’s whitening, to removing odors and stains and the list goes on and on.

Hydrogen Peroxide is therefore quite a useful and overlooked item in most households.
